Our research concerns processing-structure-property relationships of polymers and composites. Specifically, we design processing strategies to attain hierarchical structures in these materials to improve properties and have discovered scalable processing methods to produce unusual structures. Additionally, we work with bioderived materials to produce composites with reduced environmental impact and examine the effects of extreme environments on polymer properties. Our recent projects include:
- Auxetic Structures
- Tensegrity-Inspired Nanocomposites
- Polymer Composites Containing Cellulosic Nanomaterials
- Polymer Nanocomposites for Space Applications
- Polymeric Materials for Additive Manufacturing
- Robust Membranes for Separation of Black Liquor
